An Inconvenient Truth

Al Gore was a potential president of U.S.A. He was a former politician and also a former vice president. He grew up in his father's farm. He spread the awareness of Global Warming based on research and results he conducted or was a part in conducting. His interest in Global warming was a result of the help he provided in conducting the results of his professor's research on it.

Global warming is a result of the greenhouse effect gases that keeps the heat of the sun inside the Earth's atmosphere. Such gases include mainly CO2 which comes from many combustion processes. As a result of trapped heat, the temperature of the Earth eventually will rise. Thus, the Earth will change dramatically.

One of the changes from the Global warming was the formation of water deposits after the melting of glaciers. It would take hundreds of years for Glaciers to melt. Unfortunately, things don’t go around like what we expect. Glaciers melt in some places more than others with in cracks and holes. Later, the holes reach deep down to the rock basement where then the water from melted ice keep moving under the glaciers and result in separating big parts of the glaciers.

Glaciers and ice don't only cools the temperature, but also acts as reflectors for heat. While ice reflects 90% of heat, water in the other hand absorbs 90% of heat. Therefore, the temperature will rise faster than it is supposed to be due to the rapid melt of glaciers and ice

My Opinion on "An Inconvenient Truth"

The movie shows the impact of the greenhouse gases on the earth. It doesn’t only affect the climate, but also causes starvation for some animals. It may only bring homes for new diseases, but also causes people and animals to lose their homes and even lives. The movie viewers aware of the results of human acts. The industries, the fossil fuels and makes the old technology that release dirty gases can be changed to newer technologies to avoid destroying the atmosphere and polluting the air.

I find the melting of glaciers is the most compelling thing because I learned that ice reflects lots of the sun’s rays. It also was the most compelling to me due to the rapid melting of the ice when large pieces of glaciers slip in to the oceans. Furthermore, the melting was caused by the constant increase of heat which was caused by the greenhouse gases.

I find Al Gore's comments on the matching graphs and the maps are funny yet bring attention to "why would it not be true?”. The movie started with calm music which emphasize that he is delivering a peace message and wants a better world to live in. Furthermore, the images supported what he was saying because there was a big difference in each of the comparisons he brought. I am not a critic and I give it 10 out of 10. I find the movie educational and helpful. Al Gore uses dramatic events from his personal life to draw a personal connection to the possible consequences. His speech was helpful enough to show us what people have done to the earth and that we should start plan and act to protect our only earth. We should learn from our mistakes and aware other from ours.

Introduction to Global Warming

The trapped gasses that keeps the heat inside the Earth’s atmosphere is known as Greenhouse effect. The greenhouse effect raises the temperature slightly over decades. This is due to more heat goes inside the Earth’s atmosphere than goes out of it. This minor and stable "temperature increase" is known as Global Warming. Such trapped gasses are mostly Carbon Dioxide which comes mostly from combustion processes. Organic fuels such as coals and oil are abundant with carbons because it is a result of organic discomposure.

Global warming can result in major changes that can shake the balance of nature and maybe life. The more gasses trapped, the more it traps the heat for longer time. This affects the temperature globally. It can increase the temperature of the north and south poles. Such increase in the temperature can melt the ice which will result in less land for the species that depends on it in both poles.

About Beirut

Lebanon is a unique and unusual country. It is surrounded by Africa and Europe and Lebanon is in Asia. Lebanon is surrounded by Cyprus, Jordan, Israel, Syria and Turkey. Lebanon is mentioned in the Bible as “the land of milk and honey”. Jesus performed his first miracle in Lebanon too where he turned the rivers into milk and wine. Lebanon is the only Arab country that has almost the same number of Christians and Muslims.

That incident triggered a civil war between Muslims and Christians. Beirut’s western part was taken for Muslims and the eastern part was taken for Christians. The Christians asked for Syrian military for support and the result of the tension was the trust between both religions completely broke down. Revenge killing followed and violence spiraled out of control. The Lebanese army that had troops from both religions collapsed. A peace deal was finally reached in 1989 after many losses. Around 200,000 people died and also 300,000 were wounded and the economy paralyzed for years.

Beirut nowadays has a large population of young people who believe in peace and live together without religious conflicts. The tourists enjoy Lebanon as well as the young Lebanese adults by the natural views in daytime and entertaining with their nightlife while the older people spend the night time in restaurants. Beirut is also called “Paris of the East”. People can enjoy the warm beaches in summer and snow covered mountains in winter. An amazing thing in Beirut is that the mountains are away from the beach by only a 20 minute drive. The American style shopping malls are built in Beirut and bulldozers fill the land. The old clock tower is rebuilt in Beirut’s downtown. Unfortunately over 300,000 young people left Lebanon to pursue their dreams and many more live Brazil and Australia. A solid fact is that Lebanon has a high unemployment. Moreover, foreigners have taken over most of the businesses.
